 FAQs

  • Tickets are not required! This is a free event that is open to the public. The Sponsors Tent is the only area requiring a ticket.

  • The Hampton Cup Regatta no longer allows spectator boats / vessels during racing hours.

  • The race schedule will not be finalized until the morning of each race day and is always subject to change based on tide.

  • Our spectating areas are on the Mercury Blvd. bridge that leads to Fort Monroe and the grassy area on Stilwell Drive. We recommend bringing your own seating as we do not provide any.

  • Outside food and beverage are not allowed unless for medical purposes. However, each person is allowed one sealed bottle of water. There will be food and beverages available for purchase from our vendors.

  • Parking is available on surrounding public Streets in Phoebus. There will be plenty of signage identifying “Boat Race Parking”. Parking may also be available on Fort Monroe. Stay on designated road ways and parking areas. Please do not park on the grassy areas unless otherwise permitted.

  • Please follow local and state guidelines concerning COVID-19. As always, if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, we ask you to stay home for the safety of our volunteers, race teams, and guests.

  • The Hampton Cup Regatta has been run since 1926. There were races before Hampton, however, none have run for as many consecutive years.

  • The American Powerboat Association. We are a part of Region 4 of the APBA and our home host club is the Hampton Cup Racing Club.

  • The Hampton Cup Regatta began running in the Hampton River between the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel and the mouth of the river.

  • Check out the classes section under the “Experience” tab to learn about each class of boat.

  • Top speeds for the classes range from 80 to 170 mph.

  • The Hampton Cup Regatta is put together by an all volunteer organization. There are about 45 dedicated volunteers who meet year round to put on the event, as well as a huge number of race weekend volunteers, security personnel and others that support the event. We also receive a tremendous amount of support from Fort Monroe, the City of Hampton, the Hampton Department of Fire & Rescue, the Hampton Police, LAFB and the Nightingale helicopter.

  • You can come visit the children’s area or one of the many food vendors. In addition, you can meet the drivers and pit crews, look at the boats up close and really get a feel for what goes into keeping these boats running.

  • We appreciate our longtime sponsors! We have many additional sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested in a sponsorship opportunity, please contact Hampton Cup Regatta at hamptoncupregatta@gmail.com.
